Cities with VSNL/DOT Internet Access

VSNL provides a broad range Internet Services. in different cities in India. Check below in the list which cities have these facilities. Ideally, you should be able to access your account from any VSNL server. However, not all the routers have been updated to give you such access. VSNL is making effort to do so.

Gateway Internet Access Service (GIAS)

The Gateway Internet Access Service is full featured Internet Service. The Service is available from 20 nodes operated by VSNL.

The GIAS service provides three types of account:

Student Accounts
Shell Accounts
TCP/IP Accounts

Shell accounts provides a menu based access to internet services such as e-mail, ftp, remote login (Telnet) and text based browsing facility (Lynx). Access via shell accounts is a technical access with VSNL host providing all the services. The access is limited to text based services.

TCP/IP accounts provide full internet access ,the users may to need to use their own software for internet access . Common available operating systems on PC's such as IBM-Warp, Windows '95 can be used for these types of access.

Access to GIAS is available via dial up lines (up to 33.6 Kbps) or via leased lines (9.6Kbps-2Mbps or higher).
